Federal inmate gets 27-month sentence for having a ‘shank’

Xyvaion Lawrence, 23, an inmate at FCI Schuylkill, in Minersville, was sentenced to 27 months for possession of contraband in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

According to U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam, in November 2022, a correctional officer observed Lawrence in possession of a 6-inch homemade knife, commonly referred to as a “shank,” hidden in the waistband of his pants.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Special Investigative Services of the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Assistant U.S. Attorney Luisa Honora Berti prosecuted the case.

U.S. District Court Judge Malachy E. Mannion sentenced Lawrence.
