State police at Fern Ridge report on incidents

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported the following:

• A 38-year-old Effort man is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol after police responded to an incident at 9:49 p.m. Feb. 29 at the intersection of State and Shenkel roads in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said they were summoned to the scene for a report of an unresponsive male in a running vehicle, a 2008 Ford.

• Police were called to investigate a harassment by communications incident at 12:01 a.m. March 1 at a property on Woodcrest Avenue in Chestnuthill Township

The victim, an a18-year-old woman from effort, reported an unknown actor had been calling her from a text now account.

• Police said the Carbon County District Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute criminal charges against a person who attempted to buy a firearms in Penn Forest Township but was denied authorization to do so.

Police said the incident happened at 10:25 a.m. March 6, 2023, when the suspect entered Eastern Arms & Outfitters, 2615 Route 903 and tried to buy a .22 caliber pistol. Police said the suspect completed the firearms transaction record and application/record of sale, after which time an employee of the dealership ran a background check on the suspect through the Pennsylvania Instant Check System which resulted in the authorization being denied.

• Police are investigating a theft by deception/wire fraud incident that they were called to at 12:01 a.m. Feb. 26 at a property on Miller Road, Jackson Township.

They said they were told a wire fraud theft had occurred through the business’s payroll company, ADP. Police said it was determined the actor gained access to the account information through an unknown means and initiated a $50,000 payment to an account outside the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

• Jeremy Morrell, 44, of Saylorsburg, was charged with retail theft, after police were called to the Weis market at the intersection of Route 209 and Weir Lake Road in Chestnuthill Township at 3:13 p.m. Feb. 26.

Police said it is alleged he stole a Keurig K-Iced machine worth $99.99 and dog food valued at $69.97, resulting in police filing a misdemeanor charge against him.

• Police were called to a theft incident at a gas station on Route 534 in East Side.

They said an employee at the Hickory Run Service Plaza reported someone provided the station a PayPal card to purchase fuel, pumped $971.83 worth of diesel fuel into his semi-truck and left the station. The bank declined the charge.
