Bowmanstown pushes for pump inspections

Time is running out on Bowmanstown residents who have not had their sump pumps inspected.

There are still seven property owners who have not responded to the sump pump letters that were sent out, it was stated at Tuesday’s borough council meeting.

Councilman Darren Thomas suggested going in with search warrants to the properties that have yet to comply.

However, Councilman Rob Moyer said he was firmly opposed to utilizing that method.

“I disagree strongly with (a search warrant),” Moyer said.

Public Works supervisor Chris Bixler noted that certified letters have been sent out, and phone calls have been made.

Thomas said the situation becomes even more magnified during bad storms.

Councilwoman Kara Scott said she believes council should see what other boroughs are doing.

Bixler said that since the borough started the process, he’d like to see it through.

Moyer said he would take it upon himself to check with the property owners who have yet to comply.

“If you provide me names and addresses, I will try to get answers from these people,” Moyer said. “I will try to get back (to council).”

In December, council said it was still attempting to contact 19 property owners for sump pump inspections.
