March 2, 2012 - Palmerton’s Karl Pielmeier surges during the breaststroke leg and uses a strong kick in the freestyle to help win the District 11 Class 2A 200 individual medley. Pielmeier posts a time of 2:00.30 to earn the gold, finishing nearly two seconds ahead of his closest competition. Bomber teammate Sawyer Allen places fourth in the race. Karl’s sister, Katie Pielmeier, also excels in the girls 200 IM, finishing second by fractions of a second to Southern Lehigh’s Rhyan Rodriguez. Tamaqua’s Joann Butkus takes second in the girls 100 butterfly, while Weatherly’s Matthew Cullen touches third in the boys 50 freestyle.
