Barnesville Post Office closed

The Barnesville Post Office remains closed because of what the U.S. Postal Service referred to as “unsanitary work conditions.”

The 2 Grier Ave. office was shut down Tuesday and remained closed Wednesday. Officials didn’t say when the office might reopen but said the closure is temporary.

A mail collection box at the Barnesville Post Office was removed. Rural delivery is not impacted.

Those who pick up their mail from the post office will need to visit the Tamaqua Post Office, 399 E. Broad St. to get their mail. Customers should bring proper photo identification for mail and package pickups.

The Tamaqua post office is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Retail services are available at the Tamaqua site.

“We apologize for the inconvenience to our customers and plan to have the Barnesville Post Office reopened and fully operational as soon as possible,” according to a notice from the post office.
