Monroe officials detail expenditures
The Monroe County commissioners went into detail about some of the expenditures at their meeting on Feb. 7.
The commissioners also approved a professional services agreement with ARRO Consulting Inc. for an amount not to exceed $287,000.
“That’s for plans for a new waste water treatment plant at the Snydersville area behind PVM (Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home) and Hamilton Manor,” John Christy, the chairman of the commissioners, said. “It services those two entities and the (Monroe County) Correctional Facility.”
Christy also said the total in the Budget Adjustment Report dated Jan. 16 was $5,013. He said the money was moved in the budget in order to cover the following:
• $208 in water and sewer bills at 701 Main St.;
• $510 for office furniture for new employees in the District Attorneys Office, and;
• The reallocation of $4,295 in grant money.
The Budget Adjustment Report on Feb. 1 was for $94,496. Christy said some of these are corrections filling in from last year’s budgets, but it also includes money for the Monroe County Correctional Facility for labor relations, a Protection from Abuse defense advocate for Courts, as well as funds to cover shredding.
“It’s just kind of housekeeping within the fiscal offices,” Christy said.
There is also $41,000 for the Emergency Rental Assistance Program “to reallocate interest earnings to cover direct services for the remaining clients,” Christy said.
“ERAP is coming to an end, so what we’re trying to do is get as much money as we can out (to them),” he said.
Under capital outlay purchases, the commissioners ratified the Capital Purchases Report totaling $3,517.35 dated Jan. 12. Christy said this expenditure was for the following:
• $559.59 for a charging station for computer tablets at the correctional facility for those who are taking classes;
• $2,957.36 for an office and desk for the district attorney’s crisis intervention team.
The commissioners also approved the Capital Purchase Report totaling $2,897.35 dated Feb. 1 for air monitoring censors for the Monroe County Emergency Management Office. There are two sensors each for six different types of air monitoring sensors.
“If there is an event where they think there might be a gas leak or noxious fumes, these detectors would be utilized,” Christy said.
And the commissioners ratified computer capital purchases totaling $2,651.22 on the Computer Capital Purchases Report dated Jan. 17. This purchase is for two Surface Pros in the commissioners’ office. The Computer Capital Purchased Report dated Feb. 1 totaling $999.64 was for a printer for Monroe County Children and Youth.
Commissioner Sharon Laverdure emphasized at the meeting that the county has two people who handle grants and are available to assist municipalities, organizations and residents wanting to apply for a grant. The employees are Jennifer Strauch, grants manager, and Kwanzaa Smith, a grants writer.
