The Lehighton girls clinched a district playoff berth Thursday with a victory over Pine Grove.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Pine Grove-Lehighton

Lehighton officially clinched a berth in the upcoming districts playoffs by earning a 45-30 Schuylkill League victory over Pine Grove.

Charli McHugh and Ryleigh Trotman both scored 11 points in the first half as the Indians built a 14-point halftime lead.

McHugh finished with a game-high 16 points, while Trotman ended with 15. The winners, who improved to 11-10 overall and 7-7 in the league, also received nine points from Emma Repsher.

For the Cardinals, who slipped to 7-13 and 4-10, Addison Zimmerman and Lily Flynn each collected six points.

Marian allowed only two points through three quarters of play and cruised to a 54-9 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

The Fillies connected on 10 three-pointers - four by Frankie Martinelli - to move their record to 18-2 overall and 11-1 in the league.

Martinelli finished with a game-high 16 points, while Addy Fritz contributed 11. The winners also received nine points from Aliya Tikhtova.

The loss dropped the Wreckers to 2-16 and 0-11.

North Schuylkill remained tied atop the Schuylkill League Division 1 standings with a convincing 66-21 victory over Jim Thorpe.

Three players - Olivia Burke, Mya Conti and Brigid Flynn - all finished with 13 points for the Spartans, who are tied with Blue Mountain in the division at 12-1.

Jaylah Yeakel paced the Olympians with a team-high 10 points.

North Schuylkill, which led by 36 at halftime, is now 16-2 while Thorpe fell to 0-19 and 0-14.

SWIMMING

Blue Mountain-Tamaqua

The Blue Mountain boys and girls both completed Schuylkill League action undefeated after sweeping Tamaqua.

Not only did the Eagle boys post a 122-52 victory, but they set four Tamaqua pool records in the process. The Blue Mountain girls captured first in every event to gain a 117-66 victory and clinch another league title.

Noah Powers set pool records in both the 50 freestyle (21.18) and the 100 butterfly (53.43), while Matheson Bair set a new standard in the 100 free (48.44). Blue Mountain’s 200 freestyle relay team of Powers, Bair, Gabriel Kamarousky, and Christian Fisher also broke a record with a time of 3:33.20.

Tamaqua’s lone highlight came from Vincenzo Valentine, who won the diving event.

In the girls meet, Mollie Sarnes (200 free, 500 free), Sage Kaplafka (50 free, 100 free) and Paige Bensinger (200 IM, 100 breast) all posted multiple wins to help the Eagles finish league action at 10-0.

The Tamaqua girls are now 13-2 overall and 8-2 in the league. The boys slipped to 9-6 and 7-3.
