State police at Frackville

State police at Frackville reported the following incidents:

• Jose Figueroa Santiago, 32, of Mahanoy City, was charged with retail theft (shoplifting) after they were called to the Walmart store, 35 Plaza Drive, Rush Township, at 3:42 p.m. Jan. 10.

Police said he attempted to steal 17 items valued in excess of $175 from the store.

• Police said they were asked to help locate a 19-year-old man from Frederick, Maryland, who was reported missing, and the incident ended up being determined to be a suicide.

They were summoned at 7:08 p.m. Nov. 21, to property at Tuscarora Mountain Drive and State Road in Ryan Township.

Police said after locating the victim’s 2004 Jeep Liberty he was found deceased nearby it.

• Police were called to investigate an “opposite sex” incident at the state correctional facility in Mahanoy Township.

They said an inmate reported the violation of the Prison Rape Elimination Act that happened between midnight July 1 and 31 of last year.

In a separate report at the facility, police said a 71-year-old man from Frackville died of natural causes there. Police were summoned to the jail at 8:47 p.m. Oct. 9 after the inmate’s death.

• Police said a 42-year-old Girardville man died of an overdose between 7 p.m. Oct. 7 and 7:08 a.m. Oct. 8 on North John Street in the borough. The case remains under investigation.

• Police said they are investigating a harassment by communication incident that happened on Jan. 4 at the SCI jail in Mahanoy Township.

The victim is a 31-year-old Frackville man. They said an inmate at the prison reported the case under the Prison Rape Elimination Act.

In another report at the jail, two inmates, men ages 33 and 31, were charged with assault after a physical altercation they were involved in at 7:28 p.m. Oct. 23.

• Police said a 61-year-old Barnesville woman is the victim of a theft incident they were summoned to investigate on Dec. 17.

They said the woman left her cellphone in the restroom at the Speedway Gas Station, 529 S. Lehigh Ave., West Mahanoy Township, and it was stolen between 7:43 and 7:58 a.m. Dec. 17.

The Apple 13 iPhone is valued at $800, police said.

• Police said they were summoned to Walmart, 35 Plaza Drive, Rush Township, on Jan. 9 when a victim reported his lost credit card.

He told police fraudulent purchases were made on the card between 2-8 p.m.

• Police responded to a report of an unresponsive man at 121 Ben Titus Road, Rush Township, at 4:26 p.m. Jan. 5.

They said the victim, a 70-year-old Tamaqua man, was deceased at the scene and the death was determined to be of natural causes.

• A 21-year-old Girardville man is the victim of a theft by deception incident that police responded to at 10:15 a.m. Jan. 3 on West Main Street in that borough.

Police the incident was a Facebook Messenger scam. The thieves asked the victim for money that was sent using money transfer applications. The victim lost $3,000 in the incident.
