Eatery returns money patron left behind

A Palmerton business has been lauded for personally delivering money to a customer who accidentally left it behind in their establishment.

Annette Hahn posted the good deed on Palmerton Here and Now’s Facebook page on Sunday.

She said she wanted to give a huge shout out to Papa Al’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria.

Hahn posted that her mother, Eileen Smith, was in the restaurant one day last week and left her envelope of cash laying on the table.

“She got all caught up in talking to the other ladies that were there and just walked out without it,” Hahn posted. “Today when she went for cash she couldn’t find it anywhere.

“She said the last place (she) remember(ed) it being is at Papa Al’s, so she called and not only did they have it, since we placed a delivery order for today, they delivered it back to her.

“Way to go!! There are still good honest people in this world and I’m glad to call Palmerton my hometown!!”

Eileen Smith said a few days went by until she noticed she couldn’t find her envelope.

“I didn’t even realize I lost it,” Smith said. “I was just shocked.”

Smith said she was extremely thankful to the staff for their honesty.

Kamryn Fenon, a waitress at Papa Al’s, was the employee who found the envelope.

“I had them as a table, very sweet ladies,” Fenon said. “They were chit-chatting with (some other) ladies, they left, and that’s when I found it.”

Fenon said she knew to put it in a safe place.

“I didn’t count the money; I knew I had to get it back to them,” she said. “They called us for a delivery order, and the lady called in saying it was her wallet, and she asked the delivery driver to bring it with him; he brought it to their home with their order.”

Fenon said Smith called back and said how grateful she was.

“I am very happy she got it back,” she said. “It makes me feel good that I contributed to a good deed.”
