A second AMVETS post in Tamaqua was chartered during a ceremony Thursday at the C.H. Berry American Legion Post 173, Tamaqua.

Officially named the John Soltis Memorial Post 1, it joins AMVETS Post 101 as the American Veterans’ posts in the community.

Soltis, a Navy veteran of the Korean War, was active for many years in the Lansford AMVETS, where he was a past commander. He also served in the State Veterans Commission for the PA Department of Military Affairs. He died in 1997.

The new AMVETS post has 12 charter members and has yet to name officers.
