The Marian girls won their 11th straight game - and clinched a district berth in the process - on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Tamaqua’s swim teams gained their third consecutive sweep.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Marian-Nativity

Four Marian players scored in double figures as the Fillies rolled to a 65-18 Schuylkill League victory over Nativity.

Carly Minchhoff tallied 12 of her game-high 16 points in the first two quarters as the winners jumped out to a 42-10 halftime lead.

Marian - which clinched a district playoff berth with the victory - also received 15 points from Deanna Pugh and 13 from Addy Fritz. Olivia Thomas added 10 points in what was the team’s 11th consecutive win.

The Fillies are now 11-1 overall and 5-0 in the league. Nativity dropped to 2-7 and 1-4.

Lehighton-Pine Grove

Addison Zimmerman scored seven of her team-high 11 points in the second half to help Pine Grove edge Lehighton 35-34 in Schuylkill League action.

The Indians, who were led by Emma Repsher’s 11 points, held a narrow two-point halftime lead before the Cardinals rallied in the second half.

Lehighton, now 7-6 overall and 2-4 in the league, also received eight points from Leah Uyvari.

SWIMMING

Tamaqua-North Schuylkill

Tamaqua’s swim teams registered their third straight sweep with victories over North Schuylkill.

The Blue Raider girls moved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the league with a 100-79 win over the Spartans, while the Tamaqua boys are now 4-3 and 2-1 after a 105-39 decision.

The North Schuylkill girls actually posted more firsts (seven) than Tamaqua (five), but depth was key for the Raiders as they outpointed their opponent 68-33 in second through fifth-place finishes. Savannah Wilson took both the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke for the Raiders, while Lexi Buchala (500 free) and Gabby Blasko (100 back) also won events.

In the boys competition, Jathan Krall and Vincenzo Valentine both produced two individual wins. Krall captured the 200 and 500 freestyle, while Valentine took the 200 IM and diving event.

BOYS BASKETBALL

9TH GRADE

Tamaqua-Marian

Ace Schickram scored 19 points to help Tamaqua defeat Marian, 52-48.

The Blue Raiders also received 10 points from Jake Yenser, while Acosta topped Marian with 14 points.

Tamaqua-Marian

Tamaqua, behind 16 points from Greg Tirpak, defeated Marian by a 45-34 score.

The Colts were led by Bonner’s 18 points and Colon’s 13.

Tamaqua-Panther Valley

A game-high 28 points from Greg Tirpak lifted Tamaqua to a 55-39 victory over Panther Valley.

Donovan Broadway added 10 points for the Blue Raiders.

PV received 13 points from Jarrell Thomas and 12 from Ethan Benner.

Tamaqua-Mahanoy Area

Tamaqua held off Mahanoy Area for a 49-42 win.

Greg Tirpak topped the Raiders with 26 points, while Ace Schickram added 14.

Mahanoy received a team-high 21 points from Colton Clark.
