Local Roundup: Results from Jan. 6

Tamaqua’s swim team earned a sweep of Salisbury on Saturday, allowing the Blue Raider girls to remain undefeated.

Panther Valley earned a girls basketball win, while a number of area wrestlers went undefeated during the Lehighton Indian Duals.

SWIMMING

Salisbury-Tamaqua

Tamaqua gained a sweep of Salisbury in non-league action.

The Blue Raider girls remained undefeated after a 99-70 victory, while the Tamaqua boys rolled to a 120-32 decision.

Lexi Buchala and Savannah Wilson both won two events as Tamaqua improved to 6-0. Buchala captured the 200 and 500 freestyle races, while Wilson registered wins in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.

The Raider boys, now 3-3, received a pair of individual wins from both Jathan Krall (200 and 500 free) and Stephen Behun (50 and 100 free).

WRESTLING

Lehighton Duals

Jim Thorpe, Panther Valley and Lehighton all competed at the Lehighton Indian Duals.

The Olympians finished 3-2, defeating East Stroudsburg North, Manheim Central and Panther Valley, while the Indians ended 2-2, gaining wins against Panther Valley and Manheim. The Panthers went 0-5.

Thorpe’s Aiden Sterling went 5-0 during the event, with all five victories being pins. The 215-pounder registered two of his falls during the first period and the other three during the second.

Sterling’s teammate Steven Korte also posted a 5-0 mark, posting three pins while also receiving a pair of forfeit wins.

Panther Valley’s Rory Dixon matched Sterling and Korte with a 5-0 effort. Dixon, who wrestled at both 152 and 160 pounds, had one pin, two tech falls and a couple decision wins.

For Lehighton, which wrestled one less match than Thorpe and PV, three of its wrestlers turned in 4-0 performances.

Evan Wentz gained four pins at 139 pounds, while Reese Balk finished with three falls and a forfeit win at 285. Aidan Gruber, at 114, added a 4-0 mark with two pins and a pair of forfeit victories.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Panther Vy.-Shenandoah

A balanced scoring attack helped Panther Valley gain a 46-28 non-league victory over Shenandoah Valley.

Natalie Vermillion scored a game-high 11 points for the Panthers, including eight in the first half as PV built a 12-point halftime lead.

The winners also received 10 points and nine rebounds from Mikayla Yuricheck, while Maddison Maynard chipped in with 10 points.

Maddie Wasser paced Shenandoah with eight points.

Panther Valley improved to 8-4, while the Devils dropped to 6-6.
