Troop M lists enforcement statistics

The Pennsylvania State Police Troop M, Bethlehem, has announced the results of the Christmas and New Year’s Holiday Enforcement period.

The Christmas period ran from 12:01 a.m. Dec. 23 to 11:59 p.m. Dec. 25, while the New Year’s period started at 12:01 a.m. Dec. 30 and concluded at 11:59 p.m. Jan. 1.

The safety initiative Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement Education program targeted drivers who aggressively operated their motor vehicles in a manner which was dangerous to members of the public, which included speeding, seat belt violations and child seat belt infractions.

In addition, Selective Traffic Enforcement Against Drunk Drivers and Drug Recognition Expert troopers specifically focused on apprehending motorists who operated their motor vehicles while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

During the Christmas period, police in Troop M, which includes Lehigh, Northampton and Bucks counties, investigated 36 motor vehicle accidents and made 19 DUI arrests. During the New Year’s period, they investigated 32 accidents and made 25 DUI arrests.

The statistical report is as follows:

Crash Data: Christmas period - 36 crashes investigated, 1 person injured and 2 alcohol-related crashes investigated; and New Year’s period - 32 crashes investigated and 1 alcohol-related crash investigated.

Enforcement Data: Christmas period - 19 DUI arrests made, 35 speeding citations issued, 2 child passenger seat citations issued, 1 seat belt citation issued, 12 occupant protection warnings issued, 186 other traffic citations issued and 3 self-initiated criminal arrests made; and New Year’s period - 25 DUI arrests made, 156 speeding citations issued, 5 child passenger seat citations issued, 11 seat belt citations issued, 22 occupant protection warnings given, 433 other traffic citations issued and 22 self-initiated criminal arrests made.
