The Pennsylvania State Police has released its annual New Year’s holiday crash and enforcement report which shows 326 persons were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance during the period of Dec. 30-Jan. 1.

Police investigated 336 crashes in which five people died and 68 others were injured. Alcohol was a factor in 47 of those crashes.

Troopers also issued 3,833 citations for speeding, 34 citations for failure to wear a seat belt and 56 citations for not securing children in safety seats.

The Crash Data report for the 2024 holiday period is as follows (2023 statistics in parentheses):

Total crashes, 336 (481); fatal crashes, 5 (0); persons killed, 5 (0); persons injured, 68 (108); alcohol-related crashes, 47 (51); and alcohol-related fatal crashes, 1 (0).

The Enforcement Data report for the 2024 holiday period is as follows (2023 statistics in parentheses):

DUI arrests, 326 (356); speeding citations issued, 3,833 (4,126); child seat citations issued, 56 (67); seat belt citations issued, 344 (378); and other citations issued, 8,125 (7,874).

The state agency’s report is also broken down to data from various troops, three of which cover Times News areas. The data shows:

Troop L (Berks, Lebanon and Schuylkill counties) - Crash Data: crashes, 22; persons injured, 1; and alcohol-related crashes, 6. Enforcement Data: DUI arrests made, 20 speeding citations issued, 184 seat belt citation issued, 16; seat belt warnings issued, 9; child seat citation issued, 1; other citations issued, 323; and self-initiated criminal arrests made, 15.

Troop M (Bucks, Lehigh and Northampton counties) - Crash Data: crashes, 32; and alcohol-related crashes, 1. Enforcement Data: DUI arrests made, 25; speeding citations issued, 156 child seat citations issued, 5; seat belt citations issued, 11; seat belt warnings issued, 22; other citations issued, 433; and self-initiated criminal arrests made, 22.

Troop N (Columbia, Carbon, southern Luzerne and Monroe counties: fatal crashes, 1; persons killed, 2; Luzerne and Monroe counties) - Crash Data: crashes, 15; fatal crashes, 1; persons killed, 1; persons injured, 3; and two alcohol-related crashes, 2.
