Donations sought

The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC is seeking donations of commercially canned vegetables this month.

They can be brought to the church weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Officers announced

Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company has announced its officers, including executive and line officers for 2024 as follows: Wendy Cronshey, president; Bill Tippett, vice president; Candy Burger, secretary; Cindy Haydt, treasurer; Rich Beck, Aaron Keller, Bryan Beck, Zach Schoenberger, Mike Sabo, Rusty Burger and Rick Sawyer, directors.

Billy Tippett will serve again as fire chief, supported by Derrick Burger, deputy chief, and Matt Schessler, assistant chief.

Other officers are Captain, Mark Sabo; Patrick Soucy and Bryan Beck, lieutenant; Zach Schoenberger and Matt Davison, engineer; Bryon Bonsor, Fire Police Captain, and Aaron Keller, safety officer.

Congratulations due

McMichaels resident Steve Rhoads was recently recognized for his Boy Scout work, receiving the Silver Beaver Award from the Silver Beaver Lodge of Minsi Trails Council.

WEVFC officers

Serving as Year 2024 West End Volunteer Fire Company officers are: Jeff Weiss-president, Executive Board, joined by vice president, Nick Caprioli, Kristine Harrison, treasurer, and Lindsey Edwards, secretary.

The line officers are: Mike Manfre Jr., chief; Eric Hoffman, deputy chief; Bill Edinger, assistant chief; Tim Burlew and Brendon Smith, captain; Brian Snyder and Stephen Koster, lieutenant; Sal Sacco, fire police captain; and Mike Manfre Sr., fire police lieutenant.

Eldred Ag. Sec.

The monthly meeting of the Eldred Township Ag Security Board is the first Thursday of the month.

The group will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

24-Hour Adoration

Our Lady Queen of Peace has announced its first 24-hour Adoration of the New Year for Jan. 5 through Jan. 6.

Sermons’ theme

Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church, Brodheadsville, has announced the schedule of its sermons for January. They are respectively-under the theme Begin Again: Reflection on Jan. 7; Ordination, Jan. 14; Calling, Jan. 21, and Amazement, Jan. 28.

The Sunday services, blended contemporary services, begin at 10 a.m. each Sunday.

Faith & Family

St. Matthew's UCC, Kunkletown's Staci Gower is Coordinator of Christian Formation. She and her Christian Education committee are looking for new members and ideas for Faith and Family Night activities.

The first group meeting is set for 10:30 a.m., Jan. 7, to plan and learn about what is being done at St. Matthew’s.

The first event of this year is set for Jan. 19.

There will be making homemade ice cream, building a snowman (indoor relay game), and playing winter bingo. Gower will lead the Bible lesson about Salt and Light (Matthew 5:13-16).

The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the social hall.

Block shoot & more

The Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club will hold its first block shoot and meat raffle of the New Year on Jan. 7, beginning at 11 a.m.

The location is 122 Gun Club Lane, Saylorsburg.

It is 12-gauge shotgun only. The public is welcome.

New group event

Effort UMC has announced a new group meeting beginning Jan. 8. It a Christian Care group where various topics of discussion will be forthcoming.

Meetings will be held at noon, bi-weekly, beginning Jan. 8. Attendees are reminded to bring a lunch.

Bingo Night

American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, is holding its open to community Bingo Night again on Monday. Card sales begin at 6:30 p.m. Calling begins at 7 p.m.

PVM PTO meets

The Pleasant Valley Middle School PTO’s next meeting is set for 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Open next week

The Kunkletown Thrift Store at the Eldred Community Center will be reopening on Jan. 10.

The hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Food donations are encouraged. They are then given to the West End Food Pantry.

Philly flower show

On March 4 there is a Philadelphia Flower Show bus trip hosted by Chestnuthill Township’s Park Commission.

Attendees are to be at the site for leaving at 7:45 a.m. The bus leaves at 8 a.m. The return trip leaves Philly at 4:30 p.m. and anticipates being back to Brodheadsville by 7 p.m.
