Tamaqua council sticks with last year’s leaders

Brian Connely will again head the Tamaqua Borough Council.

Connely was nominated for the position of president by Councilman Ron Bowman during Tuesday’s reorganization meeting. The nomination was seconded by Councilwoman Kathy Kunkel and passed unanimously.

The appointment is for 2024.

Bowman was reappointed as council vice president. His nomination by Councilwoman Mary Linkevich was seconded by Kunkel and passed unanimously.

Before the appointments, Tamaqua Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer administered the oath of office to Connely, Bowman, and councilmen Jay Hollenbach Jr. and Robert Amentler.

Also reappointed were Attorney Anthony Odorizzi, solicitor; Michael Hobbs, police chief; Kevin Steigerwalt, borough manager; Jay Stidham, public works director; Tim Ziegler, borough secretary/treasurer; Amy Macalush, assistant borough secretary/treasurer; Alfred Benesch and Co., borough engineer; James Connely, zoning officer; Thomas Nelson, code enforcement official; Barry Isett and Associates, sewer enforcement; James Connely, fire chief and Robert Jones, emergency management coordinator.

Mark Bower was appointed as the Vacancy Board chairman and John Handler will again serve on the Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission. Brian Ouly was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Zoning Hearing Board.

Council will keep their meetings at 7 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
