January 2, 1982 - Jim Thorpe uses five pins to earn a 33-27 wrestling win over Bishop Hafey in its Schuylkill League opener. Hafey actually takes seven of the 13 weight classes, but the Olympians gain bonus points from the falls to gain the decision. Tim Zaengle records the first pin for Thorpe at 114 pounds, while Bob Brady and Joe Williams earn back-to-back falls at 147 and 157. Wayne Leon posts another pin at 187 before heavyweight Rick Mason breaks a tie score with a fall to give the Olympians the victory. Thorpe also receives a decision win from Jeff Andrews at 121.
