Ten area players named to All-State football team

Ten players from the Times News area were selected to the Pennsylvania Football Writers All-State Football team on Thursday.

The players were selected from Class 1A, 2A and 3A schools. The 4A, 5A and 6A squads will be released on Friday.

Class 3A state runner-up Northwestern Lehigh had five players receive all-state honors - all of them first-timers.

Dalton Clymer, who led the team in rushing and touchdowns, was selected at running back while one of his blockers - Ben Walters - also received all-state honors.

The Tigers, who finished the season with a 15-1 record, had three players honored on defense. Bryer Reichard was chosen on the defensive line, while Shane Hulmes made the team as a linebacker. Eli Zimmerman, who tied a school record for interceptions in a season, was one of the defensive backs named to the team.

Three other area players are repeating as all-state selections.

Palmerton quarterback Matt Machalik was honored for the third straight season after becoming the first player in state history to reach at least 5,000 yards both rushing and passing. Jim Thorpe defensive lineman Noah Rosahac, who will be heading to Syracuse, makes a return appearance to the all-state squad, as does Marian’s Jesse Rodino at linebacker.

The Colts also had two others receive recognition - James Rodino at defensive line and Michael Gelatko at tight end.
