Dennis DeMara has urged the Carbon County Planning Commission to ask the commissioners to develop an annual report for growth and preservation in the county.
“I think we’re entering into a new era here with the county growing,” DeMara, a longtime conservationist, said at the meeting Tuesday. “I live in Franklin Township and I see the lots going up and the surveyors out and ... the county now has $2.4 million for the next year or two to work on preserving five farms. This is the first time the county agriculture board has ever had that.”
He distributed Monroe County’s report to illustrate his point.
The information in the annual report would show trends, statistics and how the county is growing, some of the challenges and other issues that could come up. This information is used by municipalities applying for grants and having a central report would help their efforts.
“I feel like we’re in a situation where there is going to be a lot more development in the county and I think an annual report like this would be beneficial,” DeMara said.
A discussion between the planning office and commissioners would need to be held to determine if this would be something to consider for 2024.
The planning commission members in attendance agreed with DeMara and approved a request to speak with the commissioners on this matter.
