Santa brings joy to Summit Hill

Santa made an appearance in Summit Hill on Friday, thanks to the Diligence Fire Company in Slatington. The event, originally scheduled for Sunday, was moved up two days because of rain in the forecast.

“We had to reschedule this multiple times,” said Kathy Gieniec, the chairman of the Summit Hill Recreation Commission. “This is the first time we’ve held it on a weekday.”

The event featured treats like hot chocolate and Christmas cookies, as well as trolley rides sponsored by the Summit Hill American Legion Post 316. And, of course, Santa was there to spread holiday cheer.

Gieniec expressed her gratitude to the Summit Hill Borough, Summit Hill Mayor’s office, Summit Hill American Legion, and Thomas Tirpak from Northeast Chemical & Supply of Lansford for their donations of teddy bears, which Santa handed out to the children.

“It’s wonderful to have traditions,” Gieniec said. “When I was growing up, we always had events like this. They bring the community together and create lasting memories.”

The Summit Hill Recreation Committee, consisting of Gieniec as president, Cheryl Schock as vice president, Melissa Crampsie as treasurer, Amber Zuber as secretary, Karen Ruzicka as council member, and Sheree Henninger, Michele Midas, and Barbara “Wink” Scott, organize such events.
