New Jersey man dies in Interstate 80 crash

A 60-year-old man from Elizabeth, New Jersey, died in a Tuesday afternoon crash on Interstate 80 eastbound in Kidder Township, according to state police.

State police at Fern Ridge said the man was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:36 p.m. after he was extricated from a wrecked 2021 Kenworth T80.

Police said the crash was at mile marker 281.7, and that it was snowing and the road was icy at the time.

Police said the vehicle went off the road, struck a guide rail and went down a steep embankment where it struck several trees and overturned onto its driver’s side.

Police were assisted at the scene by emergency medical services personnel from Lehighton and Lake Harmony, the Lake Harmony Fire Company and a local towing service.
