Tamaqua teen charged in 3 burglaries

A 15 year-old Tamaqua boy is in the custody of Schuylkill County Juvenile Probation for carrying out three burglaries over the span of four days, Tamaqua police said.

Officers received a report of a burglary on Gay Street after residents came home from a trip on Nov. 19. They told police that the back door was unlocked and that they did not see signs of forced entry. They realized that a laptop was missing.

A short time later, one of the residents advised police that he was notified of unusual activity on his Capital One Credit card. Police said someone was attempting to order an iPhone 15 and have it delivered to an abandoned house on Clay Street. The person who ordered the device added a phone number for authorization, police said.

Officers contacted the Pennsylvania Criminal Intelligence Center, which was able to connect the number to a Clay Street resident. A search warrant was issued by Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer of Tamaqua.

While searching the Clay Street home, officers said they discovered the stolen laptop in the room of the 15 year-old boy. While in the room, officers spotted a bicycle and a television, along with tools on the floor of an opened closet. Police realized that the items were previously reported stolen. Police got another search warrant from the on-call magistrate, Judy Rossi of Tremont.

Police said the tools were reported missing on Nov. 17 from a home on Clay Street, where the suspect left behind footprints. Officers said the prints matched shoes that were seized from the juvenile as evidence.

The bicycle, television and Firestick recovered were from a Nov. 18 burglary on Yetten Circle.

The boy was charged with three counts each of burglary, criminal trespass and theft.

Shenandoah police assisted with the search warrant.
