Blue Mountain targets Dec. 1 for opening

Blue Mountain Resort near Palmerton has pushed back its anticipated opening date to Dec. 1 for its 46th ski season.

It’s anticipated opening day for snow tubing is Dec. 7.

Previously, the resort had anticipated Nov. 24 as its tentative opening date.

The resort has plans to open with more trails than previous years because of enhanced snow-making techniques.

Blue Mountain has 171 acres for skiing, the resort’s 40 trails accommodate all skill levels and include 14 beginner, six intermediate, 11 expert, four expert-only and five terrain parks.

Blue Mountain has installed new snow-making technology, including 74 TechnoAlpin TL8 stick guns and 26 TechnoAlpin fan guns (all fully automated), and has replaced about 20,000 feet of airline and waterline piping used for snow-making.

The new equipment will provide more efficient snow-making capabilities and improved snow quality allowing for an earlier start to the snowtubing season as well.

The resort has made multiple sustainable upgrades, most recently new LED lights on Paradise, Central Park, Barb’s Way, Shuttle and Burma Road.

The Trails End run - serviced by all lifts - will be renamed Barb’s Way in honor of the resort’s former owner, Barb Green.

The resort’s snowtubing park has 46 lanes, each 1,000 feet long.

A variety of packages, passes, equipment rentals, lessons and more are available at Blue Mountain. More information is available at https://www.skibluemt.com/.
