Forest fire breaks out in Jim Thorpe

A wildfire on Mount Pigsah was declared under control at 7:09 p.m. Sunday.

Firefighters from Carbon and Schuylkill counties spent the afternoon battling the fire in Jim Thorpe. The blaze was reported around 1:30 p.m. on the mountainside north of North Avenue. High winds helped to fan the flames.

Jim Thorpe, Franklin, Lehighton, Nesquehoning, Mahoning Valley, Summit Hill, Lansford and Penn Forest fire companies were called to the scene. Coaldale Fire Department was called from Schuylkill County.

In addition to local fire departments, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources was on scene.
