2023 Election: Schuylkill County candidates on the ballot

Candidates on the ballot from Schuylkill County in Tuesday’s election.

County races

Commissioners: Three spots are open for 4-year terms. Vote for two. Candidates are Democrats Gary Hess and Rita Anczarski Baldino; Republicans, Larry Padora and Barron Boots Hetherington, and Libertarian candidate, Gregory Woll.

Controller: Incumbent Sharyn Yackenchick is unopposed.

Recorder of deeds: Incumbent Ann Dudish, recorder of deeds, is unopposed.

Prothonotary: Incumbent Bridget McGowan Miller, prothonotary, is unopposed.

Treasurer: Republican incumbent Treasurer Linda L. Yeich is challenged by Democrat Joseph Post.

Clerk of courts: Democrat Jesseca Sickle and Republican Crista DiCasimirro.

Register of Wills: Democrat Thomas C. McCabe and Republican incumbent Theresa Santai Gaffney are on the ballot.

Coroner: Dr. David Moylan was unopposed.

Judicial

Court of Common Pleas: Democrat Michael O’Pake and Republican Bill Burke are on the ballot to take over for Judge William Baldwin, who retired.

Magisterial District 21-3-03: Andrew J. Serena is unopposed to serve in the magisterial district court in Orwigsburg. He was appointed last July by then-Gov. Tom Wolf to take the place of District Judge James R. Ferrier, who retired in May 2021.

Magisterial District 21-3-03: Tamaqua District Judge Stephen J. Bayer was also unopposed and won on both ballots.

Municipal

Coaldale, Mayor, 2-year: Republican Eric Ramirez is unopposed.

Coaldale Council, 4-year seat: Five people are running for four seats: Democrat Claire Remington is listed, with Yvonne Stoffey, who is cross-filed. Republicans are A. Kirk Waidell, Wayne S. Figner and Kim Gavornik.

Rush Township, 6-year seat: Republican George Gerhard is unopposed for supervisor.

Ryan Township, 6-year seat: Republican David R. Morgan is unopposed.

Schuylkill Township: Republican Mike Boyle is unopposed.

Tamaqua Borough Council, 4-year terms: Five people are running for four seats. Democrat Tina Burns is joined by Republicans Jay A. Hollenbach Jr., Brian Connely, Ronald Bowman and Robert Amentler.

Walker Township, 6-year term: Republican Craig Wagner is unopposed.

West Penn Township, 6-year term: Republican James E. Akins and Democrat Dean E. Deem are on the ballot for one seat.

School Board

Tamaqua Area School Board, 4-year seat: Five seats on the Tamaqua Area School District board of directors are up for grabs in Tuesday’s general election. Republicans Larry Wittig and Daniel Schoener, Democrats Jessica Tirpak and Samuel John Koch, and cross-filed candidates Melanie Dillman, Trina Schellhammer and Thomas Bartasavage Jr.

Panther Valley School Director (4-Year): Michael Alabovitz, Marco R. D’Ancona, Anthony DeMarco, Pat Leonzi and Daniel V. Matika are cross-filed for five seats.
