2023 Election Preview: Two running for treasurer in Schuylkill Co.

Editor’s note: We’ll be publishing candidate profiles through Saturday in advance of the general election on Tuesday.

Democrat Joseph J. Post is challenging incumbent Republican Linda L. Yeich for the seat of Schuylkill County treasurer. The salary is $58,613.72.

Joseph J. Post

Town: Pottsville

Background: Thirty-five years as a tax account collection teaching for the Department of Revenue. 30-plus years as a councilman and mayor of Minersville, Council Chairman of two fire departments. Currently reinstate broken appraisal in tax appeals.

Why are you running for office: To bring my expertise of tax collection to collect all moneys due the county, and look for new sources of revenue.

What are three main priorities if elected: To do the job, to make sure revenue collected is invested wisely, to hold forums throughout the county to teach children and adults how to save and invest money.

Anything else you’d like to add: As councilman I was not afraid to vote against anything I didn’t agree with even when I was going against the majority. Always stayed within the budget and proven that to everyone. On Memorial Day always had a veteran as a speaker to teach children that what you see now is not what it was during the Vietnam War. Our military was treated like crap not honored like they should be for giving years of their lives. With all the row homes in Minersville I had the borough put in parking lines for when people come home from work you don’t have to be looking for a place to park.

Linda L. Yeich

Town: Schuylkill Haven, Wayne Township

Background: Linda L. Yeich is a graduate of Blue Mountain High School and earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Penn State University. I am married to my husband Todd Yeich, have a son Zachery Zerby and two grandchildren, Kadyn and Mackynzie. I am a small-business owner since 2005 and am president of Northeast Pennsylvania Settlement, LLC. I serve on the board of directors for the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce, am an affiliate member of the Schuylkill County Board of Realtors, and am a member of the American Hose Fire Station, Trout Unlimited, Frackville Business and Professional Association and Schuylkill County Chamber of Commerce.

Why are you running for office: I am seeking a third term as county treasurer because there is still more work that can be done as county treasurer. As an elected official, I am the voice of the taxpayers of Schuylkill County trying to find ways to increase revenue and decrease expenses.

What are your three main priorities if elected: One of my priorities is to continue to maximize interest income on the county’s bank deposits. I also want to continue to bring hotels/properties in compliance with the county’s Hotel and Overnight Room Rental Ordinance having calculated delinquent hotel tax over $187,000 in 2016 when I took office and now currently negotiating to collect about $55,000 still delinquent. Finally, I want to maximize best practices and procedures for collecting real estate taxes and implement interim tax billing.

Anything else you’d like to add: I have shown a strong work ethic and coal-region values that the taxpayers can trust. As treasurer and small business owner, I have proven I can get the job done and request a vote for re-election as county treasurer.
