A friendly competition between several local police departments is underway.

Palmerton Borough Police Chief Tim Kromer encouraged residents at Thursday’s borough council meeting to help the police department support the fourth annual Give A Gobbler event presented by Colossal Radio, VALOR Clinic Foundation, and the Pennsylvania State Police.

The event is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 15 at Giant in Lehighton.

Kromer said that the Jim Thorpe and Lehighton police departments have challenged Palmerton Police Department to see which department can collect the most non-perishable food items for the event.

In Palmerton, donations may be dropped off in the lobby of the police department or borough hall between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Donations should be dropped off no later than Nov. 14.
