D-11 announces football playoff brackets

Six area teams have qualified for the upcoming District 11 football playoffs.

Unbeaten and Colonial League Gold Division Champion Northwestern is the top seed in Class 3A.

The defending 3A champion Tigers (10-0) will host No. 8 seed Lehighton (2-8) this Thursday in a quarterfinal round matchup. The two teams met during the regular season on Sept. 22 with Northwestern claiming a 49-0 victory.

Colonial League Red Division champion and undefeated Palmerton (10-0) earned the No. 2 seed in Class 3A and will host seventh-seeded Jim Thorpe (4-6). This is another rematch from the regular season, as the Blue Bombers rallied from a deficit on Sept. 15 to gain a 41-31 win over the Olympians.

Tamaqua (5-5) also qualified in the 3A bracket as the sixth seed and will travel to No. 3 North Schuylkill (8-2). This will, again, be a game between two teams that played each other during the regular season. The Blue Raiders dropped a 38-15 decision to the Spartans on Sept. 14.

All 3A quarterfinal contests will take place this Thursday and begin at 7 p.m. The 3A semifinals will take place next Friday.

In class 1A, Marian (6-4) earned the No. 2 seed and will host third seed Tri-Valley in the semifinals on Friday at 7 p.m. The Colts will look to get revenge on the Bulldogs, who earned a 16-6 victory when the teams met on Oct. 20.
