Three-prong helps

Middlecreek Christian Church, Kresgeville, is hosting its annual rummage sale, bake sale, and soup sale, Oct. 27 and 28. The day offers good bargains, delicious sweets, and homemade soups by the quart.

Friday’s hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday’s are from 9 a.m. to noon.

On Saturday, there will be a time to make purchases by the bagful during the sale for even greater savings.

Proceeds for this event will go toward Middlecreek’s benevolence fund to help those in need in the community.

Holiday help

The PVEN Holiday Toy Program helps provide new clothing and toys for children ages birth to 12 from Chestnuthill, Eldred, Hamilton, Jackson, Ross and Polk townships.

It is a supplemental program and the Angel Tree sign-ups will continue through Oct. 28.

Toys for Tots program sign-ups will go through Nov. 30.

Angel Tree applicants are automatically registered for Toys for Tots.

Certain documentation is needed to apply: proof of address for current month (lease or property tax information); birth certificate and/or custody paperwork per child(ren) being registered; proof of household income for current month (pay stubs, cash assistance if applicable) must include all members of the household.

Registered children need three wishes and clothing/shoe sizes. There is a $50 limit per gift. Gift cards will not be accepted.

Fall fun day

Effort UMC is having its Fall Family Fun Day event from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday with various activities.

The request to the church family is to bring their fur babies in costume as a pet parade is scheduled with prizes to be awarded.

Blood drive

The Western Pocono Community Library hosts a Miller-Keystone Blood Drive twice a month on the second and fourth Monday.

On Monday, the collection will be ongoing again with hours from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. by appointment.

Rummage sale

Middlecreek Christian Church will hold its annual fall rummage sale the weekend of Oct. 27 and 28. It will include a bake sale and a soup sale.

Donation days are being held from Monday through Oct. 26. Call 570-629-4066 for information.

Trunk or Treat

Our Lady Queen of Peace church will host its Trunk or Treat from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the church parking lot.

Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company will hold Trunk or Treat at the Polk Township firehouse from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 30.

Also present will be the Lehighton State Police-Lehighton Barracks, Lehigh Valley Health Network, EMS and Monroe County Control Center E911.

T’day requests

PVEN needs help to help people in need this Thanksgiving.

Donations of turkeys and turkey breasts, canned yams, cranberry sauce, gravy, stuffing, cornbread mix, French’s fried onions, pancake mix and syrup are now being accepted.

Shelf stable donations can be dropped off 24 hours a day in the teal and yellow covered bin outside the food pantry.

Perishable donations can be brought to the pantry during office hours with other days and times available by appointment.

The Food Pantry served 304 families in September.

The Clothing Closet also served 241 individuals (63 families); the Diaper Pantry assisted 96 families; and the Menstrual Hygiene Pantry served 170 individuals.

Needs for those components of the PVEN include: Clothing Closet - kids’ and men’s sneakers and boots; body wash, toothbrushes, razors, and shaving cream; Diaper Pantry - baby food and formula, adult diaper pullups and bed protection pads.

Orphan ministry

There are four days left for taking donations to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church for the ministry begun by Sandie Flannery to and for the Orphan Outreach Ministry in western Ukraine. It is in the form of a Tricky Tray (basket raffle).

There are two ways to participate by Oct. 22: Amazon Wish List at https:/tinyurl.comorphanoutreachministry or purchase any items and drop them off on the marked table in McCawley Hall.

The list is not exclusive; any new items one wishes to donate are welcome.

Spooktacular events

Chestnuthill‘s Park and Recreation is holding a Spooktacular event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 28 at the Township Park on Rt. 715.

It will include a magic show, horse-drawn wagon rides, apple cider making, costume contest, Trunk or Treat, Halloween craft, games, strolling magi, vendors and crafters, food and drinks, and more.

Attendees may also bring an item for PVEN for a chance to win a gift card. The Historical Society will be there with items from last year such as T-shirts, hats, Frisbees, mugs, and the always-needed potholders at bargain prices.

Not discounted are the West End history books, which sell for a set amount each.

Kinsley’s ShopRite, Brodheadsville is hosting a Spooktacular party from 3 to 6 p.m. Oct. 29.

It will include costume contest, goody bags, games, pony rides, face painting, arts and crafts, and music.

It is being held rain or shine.
