Monroe County crashes

State police at Stroudsburg report on the following crashes:

Jamian B. Berkal, 36, of Stroudsburg, was cited by following a two-vehicle crash at 5:20 p.m. Sept. 11 at the intersection of Business Route 209 and Neola Road in Hamilton Township. No one was injured in the incident.

Police said Berkal was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Cruze north on Business Route 209 when he began to make a left turn onto Neola Road, failing to yield to oncoming traffic. The Cruze was struck by a 2010 Mazda Tribute operated by Marybeth Cook, 59, of Saylorsburg, who was southbound on Route. 209 at the time. Police said after impact, the Cruze was pushed southbound and spun approximately 360 degrees before coming to a halt.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene, police said.

• Two people had minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash at 7:25 p.m. Sept. 13 on Route 115 in Tobyhanna Township.

State police at the Stroudsburg barracks said the injured are Marc P. Bickhardt, 55, of Lake Harmony, and Jason D. Trainer, 46, of Lehighton, Police said they did not require medical transports.

Police said the crash happened when Bickhardt, driving a 2014 Chevrolet Impala, stopped at the exit from the Blakeslee Car Wash at 5610 Route 1215 and began making a left-hand turn into the northbound lane in front of a 2002 Toyota Camry driven by Trainer. Police said the Camry struck the driver’s side front and rear doors of the Impala.

Police said both vehicles came to rest blocking the north and south lanes of travel and had to be towed from the scene.

Bickhardt was cited for the crash.

• Police were called to assist a disabled vehicle at 12:08 a.m. Aug. 10 at the intersection of Route 209 and Hamilton Road in Hamilton Township.

Upon arrival, police said the driver, a 48-year-old man from Effort, was operating the 2008 Mazda while being under the influence of alcohol.

• Matthew R. Spiess, 46, of Pottsville, suffered suspected minor injuries in a crash at 12:01 p.m. Sept. 19 on Interstate 80 in Pocono Township.

Police said he was treated by personnel from the St. Luke’s Emergency and Transport Services but was not transported to a medical facility.

Police said he was operating a 1997 Ford F250 eastbound when the rear right tire blew out. The vehicle left the roadway, striking an embankment, and rolled over multiple times before coming to rest in the left travel lane.

Police said Myles S. Miller, 32, of Marlin, who was a passenger in the front seat, was uninjured.

• Police said no one was hurt in a two-vehicle mishap at 8:07 p.m. Sept. 19 at the intersection of Route 209 and Greenview Drive in Hamilton Township.

Police said the drivers were Elias Turbi Santamaria, 18, of East Stroudsburg, who was operating a 2013 Nissan Altima, and Samantha M. Bauer, 31, of Effort, who was driving a 2023 Jeep Wrangler.

Police did not provide the details of the incident except to say Santamaria was cited for a “stop signs and yield signs” violation.

• Rebecca Johnston, 35, of Saylorsburg, had minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash at 7:20 a.m. Sept. 11 on Interstate 80 in Stroud Township.

Police said she was transported by personnel from the St. Luke’s Emergency and Transport Services to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, East Stroudsburg.

Police said the incident happened when a 2022 Toyota Rav4 operated by Ziheng Yuan, 20, of Henrietta, New York, which was eastbound at the time, crossed over the middle line of the highway and struck a 2018 Jeep driven by Johnston.

Police said the Jeep spun 360 degrees and struck a concrete barrier on the shoulder of the road.

Both vehicles sustained disabling damages and needed to be towed from the scene.

Police said Yuan was cited for the crash. He was uninjured.
