Local Roundup: Results from Oct. 12

Panther Valley’s volleyball team finished league play undefeated with a win over Shenandoah Valley on Thursday.

Other area volleyball winners included Jim Thorpe and Marian.

VOLLEYBALL

Panther Valley-Shenandoah

Panther Valley finished undefeated in Schuylkill League play after rolling to a 25-10, 25-20, 25-16 sweep over Shenandoah Valley.

Riley McArdle finished with six kills, seven digs and two aces for the Panthers, who went 13-0 in the league.

PV, now 17-1 overall, also received 10 assists and four digs from Abby Benack, while Caroline Breslin contributed eight digs and four aces.

The Panthers also won the JV match, 2-0.

Marian-Weatherly

Marian rolled to a 25-7, 25-7, 25-8 Schuylkill League sweep in the Fillies’ regular-season finale.

Abbey Kluck had a big night for the winners, finishing with 19 kills, eight digs, five aces and three assists.

Julia Meiss added 27 assists, three kills and three digs, while Alena Lombardo tossed in seven kills.

Marian, now 15-5 overall and 10-3 in the league, also received 11 digs and four aces from Isabella Horvat.

For the Wreckers (2-17; 0-13), Taylor Davidovich had six digs, Kelly Reiner ended with five digs and Rachel Rosenlund posted four digs.

Jim Thorpe-Northwestern

Jim Thorpe closed out regular-season play with a 25-13, 25-22, 27-25 non-league sweep of Northwestern.

JaeLynn Browdy had 10 kills and 17 digs for the Olympians, while Brianna Snisky finished with 11 kills and a pair of digs.

The winners, now 15-3, also received 10 kills and three digs from Brooke Mitzen.

Thorpe’s Maggy Hallihan added 33 assists, four digs and two kills, with Kelsey Patton contributing seven kills and three blocks.

For the Tigers, who ended the regular season with a 12-8 mark, Norah Silfies had nine kills and five blocks. Leah Nagle chipped in with eight kills and four digs, while Shannon Green contributed 26 assists and 13 digs.

GIRLS SOCCER

Marian-Northern Lehigh

Nine different players scored for Northern Lehigh as the Bulldogs cruised to a 13-0 non-league victory over Marian.

Mikayla Gordon had a hat trick for Northern Lehigh, which ended the regular season on a four-game winning streak.

Katelyn Barthold and Bella Heintzelman both scored two goals for the winners, who improved to 13-5.

Other tallies came from Victoria Hanna, Natalie Moffitt, Ella Tosh, Marley Edwards, Anna Douglas and Emily Gad.

Marian’s Madison Kattner made 14 saves in her time in goal.

The loss dropped the Fillies to 2-15.

Blue Mountain-Lehighton

Blue Mountain built a big lead and coasted to a 5-0 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

The Eagles tallied four times in the opening half to improve to 14-3-1 overall and 11-1 in the league.

Hailey Schewer had a hat trick for the winners, while Sophia Spulska and Caitlyn McGee each chipped in with a goal.

The Indians (10-7; 6-6) received nine saves from Ciara Behrel, and six stops from Mo Meyers.

Pottsville-Tamaqua

Pottsville’s Hadley Snyder scored with 4:02 left in overtime to lift the Tide to a 2-1 Schuylkill league victory over Tamaqua.

After a scoreless first half, Lauren Kelly gave Pottsville the lead with a goal five minutes into the second half. The Raiders’ Katie Fredericks, however, knotted the score at 1-1 off an assist from Sarah Hope.

Tamaqua keeper Cecelia Ulicny finished with 15 saves.

The Tide upped their mark to 13-3-2 overall and 11-1 in the league. The Raiders slipped to 11-7 and 8-4.

FIELD HOCKEY

Pleasant Valley-Pen Argyl

Pleasant Valley battled Pen Argyl to a 0-0 tie in its season finale.

The Green Knights finished with a 13-2 advantage in shots, and a 6-3 edge in corners.

PV goalie Maria Altemose earned a shutout by making 13 saves.

The Bears ended the year with a 2-13-3 record.
