Heller honored for service

Bernie Heller was honored Tuesday for his 13 years of service as president of the Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center’s board of directors.

To show their appreciation, board members presented Heller with a plaque that now hangs inside the 801 E. Broad St. facility.

“I didn’t expect this,” said Heller, of Mary D. “My heart is bumping a little bit.”

Heller began serving on the center board more than 25 years ago when his late mother, Mary Heller, was a client.

“I decided that I wanted to give back,” he said of his volunteerism.

Heller will continue serving as a board member.
