Local roundup: Results from Oct. 4

The Tamaqua boys and girls cross country teams each went 3-0 on Wednesday to continue their stellar seasons.

CROSS COUNTRY

Lehighton-Minersville-

Pine Grove-Tamaqua

The Tamaqua boys and girls each recorded sweeps in a meet at Tamaqua.

Both Blue Raiders’ programs went 3-0 on the day, while the Lehighton boys posted a win against Pine Grove.

Bailey Pliska, Mollie Walker and Sam Plasha crossed the finish line in second, fourth and fifth for the Tamaqua girls, which remained unbeaten with just one week left in the regular season. Julia Smith recorded an 18th-place finish for Lehighton.

Levi Kunkel was second for the Blue Raider boys, who only have one loss this season. Elijah Pagotto finished third, while Owen Serfass placed fifth for the Tribe.

The Jim Thorpe boys and girls each went 1-2 in a Schuylkill League meet in Frackville.

Aubrey Bonner and Stacy Bos placed second and third in the girls’ meet.

Bowden Chicarelli recorded a seventh-place finish in the boys meet.

Both Olympian teams scored wins over the host Spartans.

BOYS SOCCER

Marian-Tri Valley

Jake Tom scored three goals and Miguel Capellan and Edison Mitchell each added a pair to lead Marian to a 7-2 victory over Tri-Valley.

With the win, Marian upped its mark to 2-12, while Tri-Valley fell to 3-10.

Northwestern-Catasauqua

Northwestern remained undefeated with a 12-1 rout over Catasauqua in Colonial League action.

Logan Mesics had a pair of goals for the Tigers, who raised their record to 17-0. Goalie Brandon Krapf recorded a shutout and scored a goal.

Jack Mauro, Caelan Stangil, Matt Johnson, Austin Bittenbender, Issac Frey, Zach Walker, Zach Grim, Mark Boushell, Francisco Ponte, and Brandon Krapf also scored. Mauro also became a member of the 100-point club in the win.

Krapf split time in net with Dean Carl.

Catasauqua slipped to 3-10 overall.

Pottsville-Tamaqua

Wyatt Steigerwalt scored a pair of goals to help Tamaqua to a 7-1 Schuylkill League victory over Pottsville.

Jathan Krall, Gus Pereda, Ethan DeBonifazio, Cooper Ansbach, and Kevin Bazan scored for the Blue Raiders, who raised their record to 5-10 overall.

With the loss, Pottsville remained winless, falling to 0-13.

FIELD HOCKEY

Northwestern-Saucon Vy.

Cara Thomas scored an unassisted goal in overtime to lift Northwestern to a 1-0 Colonial League victory over Saucon Valley.

Emma Yanders posted a save in front of the cage for the Tigers (10-3-1 overall; 10-2), while her counterpart Hayley Heffelfinger recorded seven saves.

Saucon Valley dropped to 3-10-2 and 2-9-2 on the season.

GIRLS SOCCER

Tamaqua-Linc. Leadership

Tamaqua trounced Lincoln Leadership, 7-0, in a non-league game.

The Blue Raiders won their 10th game of the season (10-4), and received goals from Kimmy Rudy, Abby Leinbach, Sarah Hope, Cadi Fannock, Addison Kummel, Lauren Ligenza, and Sophia Sitlinger. Goalie Veronica Scott had five saves.

With the loss, Lincoln Leadership fell to 0-6.

Northern Lehigh-Palmerton

In a game where all the scoring took place in the second half, it was Palmerton that escaped with a 3-2 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Nataly Walters sparked the Bombers (12-5 overall; 9-3 CL) with two goals, while Riley Gerhard added a score.

Victoria Hanna and Katelyn Barthold accounted for the two goals for the Bulldogs, who dropped to 9-4 and 5-4 on the season.

Emma Snyder recorded six saves for the Bombers, while the Bulldogs’ Dekota Barthold ended up with nine saves.

Catasauqua-Northwestern

Paige Bissell’s three assists highlighted Northwestern’s 7-0 Colonial League win over visiting Catasauqua.

Juliet Benvin led the way for the Tigers (15-1 overall; 11-0 CL) with two goals, while Katie Brensinger, Cammy Fitch, Brook Balliet, Sophia Schaffer and Syenna Flores also scored.

Kherington Yezik was credited with two assists, while both Flores and Balliet recorded single assists.

Nativity-Weatherly

Weatherly’s second-half rally fell short as Nativity escaped with a 4-3 Schuylkill League win.

After trailing 4-1 in the second half, Erin Prete and Kendall Gerhart went on to score back-to-back second-half goals to pull the Wreckers (2-10 overall; 0-9 SL) within reach. Laurel Kennedy added a first-half goal.

Juliette Bartel posted 14 saves for the Wreckers.

Lehighton-Jim Thorpe

Charli McHugh had a hat trick and Lehighton rolled to an 8-0 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.

Karissa Moyer scored twice, while Sadie Monk, Ryleigh Walker and Mylee Lutsko also found the back of the net for the Indians (8-5).

Olivia Rosenberger made 14 saves for the Olympians (3-9).

VOLLEYBALL

Saucon Vy.-Northwestern

Northwestern got the best of Saucon Valley for a 3-0 Colonial League win.

Shannon Green paced the Tigers (11-6 overall; 8-2 CL) with 36 assists and two kills, while Kylie Nagle chipped in with 19 digs and two aces.

Leah Nagle ended up with four kills and three aces.

Pottsville at Lehighton

Pottsville remained undefeated by sweeping Lehighton, 25-15, 25-6, 25-18.

Jocelyn Kuhn had nine kills(,) and Lorah Thomas added six kills for the Indians (8-6).

The Tide kept its record unblemished, raising it to 14-0.

Pen Argyl-Palmerton

Pen Argyl swept Palmerton, 25-13, 25-15, and 25-22 in Colonial League play.

Tamaqua-Catasauqua

North Schuylkill swept Tamaqua, 25-3, 25-13, 25-21 in Schuylkill League play.

Maddie Schock had five digs, eight assists, and three kills for the Blue Raiders, while Leah Black had nine digs and one kill, and Gabby Blasko had nine digs and five kills. Destini Denning had one ace, four digs, and one kill for the Blue Raiders, who slipped to 4-13.

North Schuylkill raised its record above. 500 at 7-6.
