Palmerton Halloween scene getting attention

The scene is a dilapidated playground complete with skeletons, clowns, and all things frightening.

For some with a weak stomach, the morbid, grotesque display may not be for them.

But, to the passers-by who appear to be mesmerized by its look, the exhibit is spooky, chilling and nothing short of spectacular.

The clown standing by the stop sign has literally stopped a few people in their travels.

The property at the home at 264 Columbia Ave. in Palmerton is decked out in the graveyard scene from the movie “It” by Stephen King.

Exactly the way its property owners, Marty and Laura Konze, planned it.

From the start, there’s the huge, tall skeleton out front of the couple’s home called Steve.

Then there’s Pennywise, the dancing clown.

They also have Piggy Pete.

As Laura explained it, she and her husband met at a Halloween Costume Party at the Blue Mountain Pub in Palmerton in 1999.

“That has been our passion for Halloween,” Laura said. “We bought our house in 2013, have this huge yard, and we weren’t doing nothing with it.”

Laura added it’s a family affair, as the couple’s children, Alexander, 18, a senior, and Mason, 14, a freshman, at Palmerton Area High School along with being members of the high school football team, and their daughter Sasha assist.

“Planning is year round; we went to the Leesport Farmers Market in mid-July, and they had a huge Halloween yard sale,” Laura said. “The biggest issue is the weather; we get home in the afternoon (and go out), as we both work full-time.”

Besides Halloween, Laura said the only other holiday the family decorates for is Christmas.

“We do it more for the community than anything else,” she said. “The community loves it.”
