Turnpike incidents

State police at the Pocono barracks reported on the following incidents on the Northeast extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike:

• Police said a vehicle struck a message board on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and continued traveling south on the turnpike.

The incident happened at 1 a.m. Sept. 21 at mile marker 91.7 in Kidder Township.

Police said the vehicle traveled partially onto the shoulder of the road when it struck the construction message board with its right side, causing minor damages to the sign.

• Yumaira Y. Feliz Batista, 37, of Wilkes-Barre, was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after a crash at 11:45 a.m. Sept. 16 on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

It happened at mile marker 82.4 in Penn Forest Township.

Police said she was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry southbound when she lost control of the vehicle while it traveled around a right bend in the road. The car crossed over into the left lane and continued to strike the center concrete barrier. After the initial impact, it crossed both lanes, struck a guide rail and spun counterclockwise before coming to rest on the shoulder of the road.

Police said the car sustained heavy damages and was towed from the scene.

A 16-year-old girl from Wilkes-Barre, who was a passenger in the vehicle, sustained suspected minor injuries and was treated by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association. Batista and another passenger were uninjured.

• Police said a tractor trailer had to be towed from the scene after its gas tank was punctured when the driver drove over an object/debris that was in the middle of the road.

Police said Tony L. Rhoads, 64, of Frederick, was driving the 2023 Freightliner when the incident happened at 1:37 p.m. Sept. 21 at mile marker 70.1 in Washington Township. He was uninjured.

Police said after the undercarriage of the truck struck the object, the driver was able to bring the rig to a controlled stop on the shoulder of the road. Police said the leak was contained by a boom.

• Jackson T. Foley, 19, of North Wales, escaped injuries in a crash at 7:31 p.m. Sept. 24 at mile marker 88.9 in Kidder Township.

Police said he was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze southbound when he lost control of the vehicle. It traveled off the roadway and struck an embankment, after which time the driver got the vehicle back onto the roadway where it struck the concrete center median. Police said heavy rain was falling at the time of the crash.

The car was towed from the scene. Police said Foley was “at fault for driving too fast for conditions.”

• Louis F. Montanaro, 22, of Broomall, was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after an incident at 2:18 p.m. Sept. 22 at mile marker 67.9 in Washington Township.

Police said he was driving a 2008 Ford Econoline in the left travel lane while a 2023 Mack Trucks Anthem operated by Howard W. Linton, 50, of Allentown, was in front of the van. Police said the van struck the rear of the Mack. The van had to be towed from the scene while the Mack sustained cosmetic damages.

Police said Linton was uninjured.

* Marylouise Kephart, 73, of Coopersburg, escaped injuries when her car struck a deer at 12:25 a.m. Sept. 26 at mile marker 66.3 in Washington Township. Police said the deer entered the roadway in front of her 2013 Toyota Prius and she was unable to stop before hitting it.
