Slatington man charged with possession of meth

A 50-year-old Slatington man has been charged with possession of methamphetamines.

The Lehighton Borough Police Department reported details in the case against Sterling White:

At 12:50 a.m. Sept. 9, police saw a motorcycle heading west on Route 443 with a plate that was illegible, and not illuminated.

Police say White pulled into the Sunoco Gas Station, and they pulled in to conduct a traffic stop.

Police said White appeared to have glazed eyes, and was having difficulty constructing coherent sentences.

He refused to produce identification.

During the transport to the Lehighton state police barracks, White ranted incoherently, and upon arrival, was live scanned, at which time he was identified.

White’s license was shown to be suspended for DUI-related offenses.

Officers took White back to the Lehighton police station where his bag was searched and a plastic bag containing methamphetamine was found.

Police discovered that the registration plate on the bike was registered to a different vehicle.

White faces charges of obstructing administration of law or other governmental functions, driving under the influence of controlled substance, use/possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of controlled substance, display of registration plate, and fraudulent use or removal of a registration plate.

White is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Oct. 11 before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
