Local roundup: Results from Sept. 20

The Tamaqua boys and girls each went 3-0 on Wednesday in cross country action, while the Jim Thorpe girls and Lehighton and Marian boys teams also posted perfect marks.

Tamaqua’s boys and girls posted a sweep at North Schuylkill.

Levi Kunkel crossed the finish line ahead of the competition to place first for the Blue Raiders (8-1) in the boys meet. Anthony Marchetti and Jesse Gormley finished third and fifth, respectively.

Alexis Buchala paced the unbeaten Raiders (9-0) in the girls meet, as she recorded a second-place finish. Samantha Plasha and Bailey Pliska grabbed top-five finishes, ending up in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Albin Petschauer crossed the line in first and the Marian boys ran to a 3-0 in a meet at Pine Grove.

Petschauer paced a trio of Colts (9-0) up front, as he crossed the line first and Alex Porambo and Wade Eroh followed in fourth and sixth place, respectively.

The Fillies went 1-2 in the girls meet. Emma Ashfield led the way for Marian with a sixth-place finish, while Olivia Serfass earned an 11th-place finish.

Aubrey Bonner ran to a first-place finish to lead the Jim Thorpe girls to a 3-0 day at home.

Bonner crossed the line in 21:13 as the Olympians (5-4) posted wins over Minersville (25-32), Tri-Valley (17-42) and Gillingham Charter (15-50). Stacy Bos also placed in the top three, finishing third with a time of 22:37.

In the boys’ meet, Bowden Chicarelli (18:47) placed eighth while Gabe Wirth (18:49) finished nine for Jim Thorpe (4-5), which went 1-2, posting a win over Gillingham Charter (15-50).

Elijah Pagotto gabbed a first-place finish to lead the Lehighton boys to a 3-0 mark at home.

The Indians (7-2) grabbed three of the top-five finishes in the boys’ meet, as Pagotto crossed the line first followed by Owen Serfass. Kyle Kuznicki placed fifth.

Lehighton was 1-1 in the girls meet, while the Weatherly boys went 0-3.

Julia Smith placed 10th for the Indians, while Sebastin Williams and Carlos Otero were ninth and 10th, respectively, for the Wreckers.

Pleasant Valley-PM East

Pleasant Valley and Pocono Mountain East ended in a 2-2 tie in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

Molly Sobers and Sara Lesnik accounted for the two goals for the Bears, who moved to 1-6-2 on the season.

Dakota Stiff posted both goals for the Cardinals, who moved to 0-8-1 overall.

GIRLS SOCCER

Tamaqua-Lehighton

Sarah Hope and Katie Fredericks both scored a goal in each half to help propel Tamaqua to a 4-2 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

Sadie Monk opened the scoring for the Indians, but the Raiders responded with four straight goals to take control.

Ryleigh Walker added a goal for Lehighton. Cecelia Ulicny had 15 saves for Tamaqua (5-3) and Ciara Behrel had eight saves for Lehighton (3-5)

Lourdes-Weatherly

Lourdes cruised to a 12-1 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Erin Prete scored for the Wreckers, who slid to 0-7 overall and 0-7 in the league. Kendall Gerhart finished with 15 saves.

GIRLS TENNIS

Pleasant Valley-ES North

Pleasant Valley posted a 5-1 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over East Stroudsburg North.

Brianca Pridham and Ryan Rosenberg posted wins in singles’ play for the Bears, who improved to 6-9 overall.

ES North slipped to 2-10-1 on the season.

Keira Reese and Lila DeJessa had singles wins for the Olympians, while Ada Finsel and Chloe Tantala and Noelanie Sepulveda and Diamond Alvear posted doubles wins.

The Olympians moved to 4-8, and the Green Knights dropped to 3-8.

Notre Dame ES-Tamaqua

Tamaqua downed Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg, 4-1.

Emily Antonio and Jenna Fernandez had wins in singles play for the Raiders. Gabby Eroh and Bradyn Brothers and Jasmine Eberts and Amanda Chen were victorious in doubles action.

With the win, Tamaqua raised its mark to 6-7, while Notre Dame remained winless at 0-10.

VOLLEYBALL

Pleasant Vy.-Stroudsburg

Pleasant Valley kept its undefeated season intact, defeating Stroudsburg 25-8, 25-12, 25-21 to move to 10-0 on the season.

Brianna Bruckman had 25 assists, eight digs and three kills, and Lexi Womack netted 13 kills and eight digs in the win for the Bears, who have also clinched a District 11 playoff berth. Hannah Akob also had 13 digs and three kills, while Alexis Wilkes added 11 digs and three assists.

Panther Vy.-Saucon Vy.

Unbeaten Panther Valley swept Saucon Valley, 25-23, 25-15, 25-11 in a non-league match.

Natalie Vermillion had six aces, five kills, and 12 digs for the Panthers (9-0), who secured a District 11 playoff berth.

Riley McArdle added an ace, 12 kills, and eight digs, and Morgan Orsulak had four kills, 14 assists, and five digs.

BOYS SOCCER

Palmerton-Northwestern

Matt Johnson registered three goals and three assists as Northwestern remained unbeaten with a 9-1 rout of Palmerton.

Johnson’s big night gives him 220 career points - a new school record.

Jack Mauro had two goals, whille Jake van Lierop, Caelean Stangil, Caden Mertz, and Issac Frey all added single goals.

Northwestern improves to 12-0 overall, while Palmerton falls to 3-8.

Salisbury-Northern Lehigh

Salisbury edged Northern Lehigh 3-2 in Colonial League play.

Logan Berfield scored for the Bulldogs off a penalty kick in the first half, and Chayce LoPinto tallied a goal in the second half while James Stock recorded nine saves.

With the loss, Northern Lehigh dropped to 2-6-1 overall, while Salisbury improved to 6-5.
