Sale ending

Effort UMC’s soup sale, which includes 7 Bean and Ham & Chicken Corn Chowder, is ending today. The pickup date is Sunday after each service.

Free dinner

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is offering a free community dinner tonight, from 5 to 6 p.m.

Drive through and pick up a free meal. No reservations are needed and all are welcome, shares the church.

C’hill Historical

A regular business meeting of the Chestnuthill Township Historical Society will be held at 6 p.m. today at the township’s park building on Rt. 715.

Lynn Heckman, owner-operator of Heckman Orchard will speak at 6:45 p.m.

Heckman Orchards is a local 60-plus year-old mainstay of Chestnuthill’s business community.

He specializes in local arrowheads and artifacts as well as the culture and history of the Lenni-Lenape who once populated this township. He is also a professional flintknapper, one who recreates arrowheads and artifacts by using methods that indigenous people would have used to create their tools.

Vets Commission

Polk Township Veterans’ Memorial Commission is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m.

Golf Tournament

Habitat for Humanity in Monroe County has announced its 26th annual golf Tournament to benefit Monroe County’s unit of Habitat for Humanity.

It will be held at Great Bear Golf Club next Wednesday.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. and dinner and prizes at 6 p.m.

Registration is due today.

Two PV events

The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School PTO will meet at 4 p.m., Thursday, and at 7 p.m., the PV School Board will meet in the Administrative Center.

PVEN grateful

The PVEN reported that he 2023 Back to School Extravaganza saw 179 students in 87 families receive a brand-new backpack, school supplies, snacks, toiletries and more.

Pocono Mountains United Way provided an abundance of backpacks and individuals, churches and community groups brought many items that assisted in this PVEN outreach.

In addition, the PVEN served 303 families via the food pantry, comprised of 908 individuals; the Clothing Closet assisted 30 families, which included 84 individuals; the Diaper Pantry served 94 families; and, the Menstrual Hygiene pantry aided 140 individuals.

Church flea market

St. Peter’s United Methodist Church is hosting an outdoor flea market Saturday.

It will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Members suggest reserving a vendor space now by calling 570-992-6930 for information or leaving a message at the church by calling 570-992-7311.

Apple dumplings

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is holding an apple dumpling sale. The order deadline is Sunday.

The dumplings are freshly made, individually packaged and ready for baking.

For cost and to order call Sylvia at 570-460-0638. Pick-up time is from 3 to 6 p.m., Oct. 5, at the church.

CWU meeting

Church Women United of Monroe County will hold a business meeting at noon on Friday, at Faith United Methodist Church, 1160 Church Drive, Stroudsburg, PA 18360. Attendees are asked to bring a bag lunch. Everyone is invited.

Alpaca days

Two days of celebrating National Alpaca Farm Days is happening in Saylorsburg, at L’Eredita di Favale, at 299 Brick Church Road, Saylorsburg.

Saturday’s hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday’s hours are from noon to 5 p.m.

Admission is free and parking is on the road.

The day includes experiencing the alpacas up close, feeling the alpaca fleece, touring the farm, learning about raising and breeding alpacas, shopping for alpaca products, enjoying a fun-filled day at the farm for all.

Food trucks, fresh eggs and honey will be for sale.
