Walnutport man one of four from Pa. nabbed in nationwide drug investigation

A Walnutport man was one of six people arrested following a nationwide narcotics investigation, the Bucks County District Attorney’s office announced on Tuesday.

Miguel Aliaga, 36, was one of four people from Pennsylvania netted in the seven-month investigation.

The bust, according to investigators, dismantled a bicoastal drug trafficking organization responsible for shipping millions of dollars worth of deadly drugs from Los Angeles to Bucks County and surrounding areas.

Led by the Bucks County Detectives Drug Strike Force, in collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies, the operation began in February and culminated on Sept. 6.

The execution of search and arrest warrants across various counties in Pennsylvania, as well as in Los Angeles and San Diego, led to the apprehension of the drug trafficking organization’s key members.

The group’s modus operandi, a news release stated, involved concealing drugs within parcels, which were then shipped using U.S. parcel companies. The parcels contained large quantities of dangerous substances, including methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and marijuana, all with a street value exceeding $3.5 million.

“By dismantling this dangerous national drug trafficking organization, the Bucks County Drug Strike Force and its law enforcement partners, have undoubtedly saved countless lives,” Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub said. “More to come.”

Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations Philadelphia, William S. Walker, emphasized the importance of interagency cooperation.

“The cooperation among agencies allows officials to expand cases throughout the country and ultimately enhance the safety of the American people,” Walker said.

The charges filed against the six people include dozens of felony counts such as corrupt organizations, dealing in proceeds of unlawful activities, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal use of a communication facility, and criminal conspiracy.

Magisterial District Judge Lisa J. Gaier arraigned Aliaga, along with David Matthew Yohn, 53, of Springfield Township, Bucks County, and Avrian Haywood Mack, 21, of Reading, Berks County, setting bail at $2 million each. Davone Desean Walker, 43, of Allentown, Lehigh County, faced a $2.5 million bail. Michael Sanchez, 32, of Los Angeles, California, and Aived Abel Garcia, 25, of Chula Vista, California, were taken into custody in California and are awaiting extradition.

In addition to drug-related charges, the investigators say the group was involved in illegal possession and transfer of firearms.

Over 40 firearms, including handguns, shotguns, hunting rifles, and assault rifles equipped with suppressors, were seized. Some of the handguns were homemade ghost guns, untraceable firearms without serial numbers, investigators said.

The seized narcotics included over 60 pounds of methamphetamine, a kilogram of fentanyl, more than a kilogram of cocaine, 65 pounds of marijuana, prebagged fentanyl/heroin, 300 fentanyl pills, 6 pounds of mushrooms, and $15,000 in cash.
