Lehigh DA investigating video circulating in local schools

Editor's note: This story has been updated with new information. The district attorney said the video has not circulated in Carbon County as he originally reported.

The Pennsylvania State Police have discovered an offensive video containing child pornography that has been circulating throughout several Lehigh Valley schools.

Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin announced Wednesday that the investigation is to warn the community about the sexually explicit content of this video.

“The video shows a female teenager and a prepubescent young boy engaged in a sexual act,” a news release from the district attorney’s office, states. “It is child pornography.”

“This video has been known to have circulated among students at Northern Lehigh and Parkland schools,” according to the release. “At this point, we believe the video emanated from the Altoona area and does not depict any local children.”

Martin is reaching out to advise the community that if this video is discovered, it should not be disseminated and should be deleted.

Contacted Wednesday evening, Northern Lehigh School District Superintendent Dr. Matthew J. Link addressed the situation.

“The district is aware of the illegal activity which was sent to a few of our students via cellphone communication,” Link said. “This is a law enforcement matter, and our school district police department and administration are cooperating with the investigation.

“I encourage all parents and guardians to talk with their children about what they post or text using their cellphones or other devices and that there could be serious legal consequences or school discipline depending on the content.” Information about the Carbon County school was not available at press time.
