Local roundup: Results from Sept. 11

It was a good day for Pleasant Valley, Jim Thorpe and Northwestern teams on Monday.

The Bears posted wins in volleyball and girls soccer action, while the Olympians posted volleyball and boys soccer victories, and Northwestern’s volleyball and girls soccer teams scored wins.

Elsewhere, the Palmerton field hockey and Tamaqua and Lehighton volleyball teams also recorded victories.

FIELD HOCKEY

Bangor-Palmerton

Sydney Frantz scored four goals to lead Palmerton past Bangor for a 4-1 Colonial League victory.

The Bombers (4-3) have won two straight, outscoring opponents 7-1 over that stretch.

With the loss, the Slaters fall to 4-2.

BOYS SOCCER

North Schuylkill-Jim Thorpe

Noah Geiser had a hat trick in the first half and Jim Thorpe rolled to a 6-1 Schuylkill League win over North Schuylkill.

Henry Snyder scored twice in the second half for the Olympians (3-4) and also assisted on Geiser’s third goal. Cael Heaney scored on an assist from Geiser, and also assisted on Geiser’s second goal. Ehren Hassler, Conor Holland and Devon Frantz also had assists for Thorpe.

G. Reader scored in the second half for the Spartans (3-3).

Blue Mountain-Tamaqua

Shawn Hertzog had a hat trick and Blue Mountain rolled to a 9-1 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.

Shawn Batory added two goals, and Dylan Knittle added a goal and an assist for the Eagles (6-1), who also got scores from Colton Leibold and Hayden Freed.

Wyatt Steigerwalt scored on an assist in the first half for the Blue Raiders (3-3).

Lehighton-Pine Grove

Nate Frankenfield’s first-half goal was all Pine Grove needed to secure a 1-0 Schuylkill League win over visiting Lehighton.

Frankenfield posted his goal within the first five minutes of the game for the Cardinals, who remain unbeaten at 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the league. Peyton Renninger finished with two saves.

Bryce Miller made nine saves for the Indians (3-4; 1-3).

Williams Valley-Weatherly

Williams Valley topped Weatherly for a 4-2 Schuylkill League victory.

Alex Rosenlund led the Wreckers (0-3 overall; 0-3 SL) with a goal and an assist, while Trent Higgins also scored. John Puzzetti had an assist, and Michael Davies made 13 saves.

VOLLEYBALL

Northwestern-Saucon Vy.

Northwestern posted a 3-1 win over Saucon Valley in a Colonial League match.

Kylie Nagle recorded 32 digs for the Tigers (3-3), while Norah Silfies finished with 11 kills and Shannon Green dished out 34 assists.

The Panthers fall to 2-2 with the loss.

Williams Vy.-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe rolled to a 25-9, 25-10, 25-13 win over Williams Valley.

Olivia Calcano recorded her 500th-career dig for the Olympians (4-1). Brooke Mitzen had 14 kills, five digs, while Brianna Snisky added 10 kills and eight service points, and JaeLynn Browdy contributed seven kills, six digs, five aces and 15 service points. Maggy Hallihan dished out 37 assists and had 13 service points, four aces and four kills, and Kelsey Patton added eight kills.

Tamaqua-Minersville

Tamaqua pulled out a 25-19, 25-23, 25-23 win over Minersville.

Senior Sarah Coccio had five kills, one ace and one block for the Blue Raiders. Seniors Gabby Blasko added four kills with four aces and two digs, while Lacey Beers came up with 11 digs and two aces. Sophomore Leah Black had five digs, two kills and one ace, and freshman Madison Schock added nine assists, six aces and one kill.

Tamaqua also won the JV match, 2-1.

Stroudsburg-Lehighton

Lehighton prevailed for a 25-17, 25-23, 23-25, 25-27, 16-14 non-league victory over Stroudsburg.

Lorah Thomas (11 kills) and Amanda Burns (10 kills, one ace) sparked the Indians (5-1 overall) up front, while Autumn Clewell led the way in the back with 32 assists and three aces.

Lyla Kershner (18 digs, three aces), Aleea Yeakel (four digs), Makenna Snyder (five kills) and Jocelynn Kuhn (six kills) all contributed toward the winning effort.

ES North-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley stayed unbeaten with a 25-4, 25-4, 25-13 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over ES North.

Rylee Ruggiero led the attack at the net for the Bears (6-0 overall; 6-0 EPC) with 11 kills, while Hannah Akob (five kills), Lexi Womack (five kills), Laura Ballak (four kills) and Abby Dominick (four kills) all combined for 18 kills.

Brianna Bruckman added 19 assists in the win.

Palmerton-Pen Argyl

Pen Argyl picked up its first win of the season with a 25-17, 25-13, 25-20 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

The Green Knights move to 1-5 with the win.

Hailey Barry had two kills for the Bombers (2-7), while Sadie Gair added four assists and Caylee Strohl delivered two aces.

Weatherly-Executive Education

Executive Education Academy Charter School posted a 25-19, 25-21, 25-16 non-league win over Weatherly.

Kelly Reiner had five kills, six digs and two aces for the Wreckers (0-6). Rachel Rosenlund had four kills, 11 digs and four assists, while Taylor Davidovich added six assists and two kills.

GIRLS SOCCER

Bangor-Pleasant Valley

Aryn Stivala scored twice and Pleasant Valley picked up a 2-1 non-league win over Bangor.

Hailey Klein and Mya Manigo assisted on the scores for the Bears (3-4), while Sadie Rizzo made four saves.

Raegan Toomey scored for the Slaters (2-4-1).

Northwestern-Salisbury

Cammy Fitch’s two goals and two assists helped Northwestern roll to a commanding 8-0 Colonial League victory over Salisbury.

Brook Balliet had a hat trick for the Tigers, while Katie Brensinger also scored twice.

Kherington Yezik (goal), Sophia Schaffer (two assists) and Kiersten Klein (assist) added to the winning effort, which kept Northwestern unbeaten with a 7-0 overall record and 4-0 mark in the league.

GOLF

Nativity-Weatherly

Nativity posted a 343-442 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

Trey Keating earned medalist honors for the Green Wave (6-5; 5-5) with a 77.

Tyler Hinkle led the Wreckers (0-11 overall; 0-11 SL) with an 88.
