Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 9

Tamaqua picked up victories in boys soccer, girls soccer and volleyball on Saturday, while Palmerton posted wins in both field hockey and volleyball.

BOYS SOCCER

Jim Thorpe-Northwestern

Matt Johnson and Jack Mauro both had hat tricks to help Northwestern roll to a 10-2 non-conference victory over visiting Jim Thorpe.

Johnson added two assists, while Jake van Lierop collected a goal and four helpers.

The Tigers, who improved to 7-0, also received a goal and two assists from Caelan Stangil. Logan Mesics and Isaac Frey both chipped in with a goal, while Cole Mertz finished with two assists.

The loss dropped the Olympians to 2-4.

Catasauqua-Tamaqua

Wyatt Steigerwalt’s overtime goal lifted Tamaqua to a 3-2 non-conference victory over visiting Catasauqua.

Cooper Ansbach finished with a goal and two assists for the Blue Raiders, with his second assist coming on Steigerwalt’s game-winner.

Jathan Krall accounted for Tamaqua’s other tally.

Blue Raider keeper Kevin Bazan made 12 saves in the win, which boosts the Raiders’ record to 3-2.

The Roughies, now 2-3, received goals from both Jayden Olivera and Osmar Ferre.

CROSS COUNTRY

Jim Thorpe, Northern Lehigh, Palmerton, Tamaqua at Centaur Invitational

Palmerton’s Connor Hibell had an area-best third-place finish) at the DeSales University Centaur Invitational. Hibell crossed the finish line in a time of 17:11.7.

Lehighton’s Elijah Pagotto finished in 15th place, while the Blue Raiders’ Levi Kunkel was 21st.

Sophia Cornell of Northwestern had the best area finish in the girls meet, placing 26th.

The Tamaqua boys grabbed a fourth-place team finish, while the Northwestern girls earned a ninth-place finish as a team.

FIELD HOCKEY

Palmerton-Salisbury

Palmerton posted a 3-0 Colonial League victory over Salisbury.

Sydney Frantz led the Bomber attack with two goals. Mackenzie Long added a single score, while Celeste Hoffman and Tessa Sander had assists as Palmerton improved to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in the league.

ES South-Lehighton

East Stroudsburg South blanked Lehighton for a 3-0 non-league win.

Samantha Rogers paved the way for the Cavaliers (3-3 overall) with two goals.

Greyson Frey finished with 14 saves for the Indians, who slip to 4-2 on the season.

No. Lehigh-Bangor

Ana Jones’ two goals and assist sparked Bangor to roll to a 5-0 win over Northern Lehigh in Colonial League action.

Emma Lautenbacher, Megan Engle, and Ashley Lautenbacher all chipped in with single scores for the Slaters, who improve to 4-1 overall and 4-1 in the league.

The loss drops the Bulldogs to 0-5 overall and 0-4 in the league.

GIRLS SOCCER

Marian-Tamaqua

Sarah Hope’s goal and three assists highlighted Tamaqua’s 8-0 win over Marian.

Both Kimmy Rudy and Katie Fredericks had two goals apiece for the Blue Raiders (4-1 overall), while Abby Leinbach chipped in with a goal and an assist. Also contributing to the win were Sophia Sitlinger (goal), Evelyn Leinbach (goal), Alexis Bowman (assist) and Sienna Stellfox (assist).

Blue Raiders’ keeper Cecelia Ulicny recorded six saves to post her third shutout in a row.

The Fillies fell to 0-5 on the season.

Palmerton-No. Lehigh

In a scheduled non-league contest, Northern Lehigh pulled away with a 3-1 win over visiting Palmerton.

Natalie Moffitt paced the Bulldogs (4-1 overall) with a goal and an assist, while teammates Katelyn Barthold and Victoria Hanna both chipped in with single scores.

Natalie Walters posted the lone goal for the Bombers (5-3).

Dekota Barthold finished with two saves in goal for Northern Lehigh, while Palmerton’s Emma Snyder had seven saves.

Lehighton-No. Schuylkill

Lehighton picked up a 3-1 Schuylkill League victory over North Schuylkill.

Charli McHugh, Sadie Monk and Mylee Lutsko all scored for the Indians, who improve to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the league. Ryleigh Walker was credited with two assists.

Taylor Smadle posted the lone goal for the Spartans (2-3; 1-2).

Indians’ keeper Ciara Behrel recorded four saves.

GIRLS TENNIS

Parkland-Pleasant Valley

Parkland posted a 6-1 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pleasant Valley.

Ryan Rosenberg picked up a win at No. 3 singles for the Bears (4-6 overall).

The Trojans improved to 9-0 on the season.

VOLLEYBALL

Weatherly-Palmerton

Palmerton swept Weatherly in non-league action, 25-13, 25-22, 25-21.

Hailey Barry had eight kills for the Bombers (2-6 overall). In addition to Barry, Sadie Gair (14 assists) and Kaitlyn Heimbach (eight aces) also had strong matches.

Kelly Reiner led the way for the Wreckers (0-5) with eight service points, four digs, three kills, three aces and two blocks. Rachel Rosenlund (eight service points, five digs, three aces); Abby Teodorescu (five service points, two kills, two digs) and Reina Whalen (eight digs) also played well.

Pen Argyl-Pleasant Vy.

Pleasant Valley kept up its winning ways with a 25-11, 25-13, 25-12 non-league win over Pen Argyl.

Lexi Womack (seven kills), Rylee Ruggiero (seven kills) and Hannah Akob (six kills) combined to lead the way at the net for the Bears (5-0 overall). Brianna Bruckman had 28 assists.

Womack and Akob added seven digs apiece, while Laura Ballack (three kills, two blocks) and Alexis Wilkes (three aces, two digs) also played roles in the PV victory.

Tamaqua-Shenandoah Vy.

Tamaqua defeated Shenandoah Valley, 25-20, 24-26, 25-17, 25-15 in a non-league match.

Freshman Madison Schock had 14 assists and two kills for the Blue Raiders (2-4 overall). Also playing well were Leah Black (two aces, six kills); Gabby Blasko (two aces, four kills); and Sarah Coccio (four kills).
