Nesquehoning Borough Council
Nesquehoning Borough Council acted on or discussed the following items during its monthly meeting on Wednesday.
• Approved the borough planning commission’s approval of phase 1 of the Narrow Valley Sports Complex.
• Approved a fee resolution that sets all fees for everything in the borough.
• Approved a motion to release the bond for phase II of the PA Solar Park following the recommendation of the engineer. It was noted that this only deals with the bond for phase II and not phase I funds.
• Authorized the purchase of a used police cruiser through a Costars contract if the borough determines the funds are available to make the purchase. The final cost, after a trade-in of another vehicle, would be approximately $8,500.
• Approved New Columbus Fire Company’s request to hold a dart tournament fundraiser on Sept. 9.
• Mayor Tom Kattner announced that the Nesquehoning VFW will hold a corn hole tournament on Aug. 20 to help raise money for Connor Snyder, who is going into the Space Force. He requested part of Center Street in front of the VFW be closed to allow for the tournament to take place.
• Approved advertising a new consumer fireworks ordinance that would regulate the use of fireworks within the borough limits.
• Councilwoman Abbie Guardiani reminded residents that the electronics recycling for the borough is Sept. 6.
• Approved advertising a proposed ATV ordinance to get the discussion started because the borough is getting inundated with out-of-town riders coming in and causing issues.
• Councilwoman Lois Kuba announced that the Go Joe 26 stop at the borough was well received and residents raised more than $4,200. Mayor Tom Kattner also helped by allowing Joe Snedeker to start to shave his beard off.
• Memorial benches are being built and installed as part of Angelo Greek’s Eagle Scout project. Six benches have been placed in the New Columbus Park and more are being made. A total of 40 have been ordered by families of loved ones. Council reminds them to have patience since it takes a significant amount of time to construct a bench.
