Scammers have hit the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company’s activities list by targeting its Giant Yard Sale next month.
The fire company posted on its Facebook page that anyone who sees scammers trying to cash in and accept payments for any of the department’s events should disregard and report to Facebook.
The fire company is accepting direct donations of used/new items for its Giant Yard Sale Aug. 18-20.
However, it isn’t accepting vendors.
The fire company urges to not pay anyone who states they are in charge of vendors, as there are none, according to Chris Lilly, president of the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary.
“It’s a shame that scammers have to pick on organizations that are just trying to do good for the community,” Lilly said. “There are scammers out there and just to be aware of it.”
Drop off dates and times for the Giant Yard Sale are from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 8 and Aug. 10; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 12; and 6-8 p.m. Aug. 14-15.
Items that are not being accepted are exercise machines, air conditioners, refrigerators, freezers, computers/monitors, or cellphones.
The Giant Yard Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 18-19. Bargain Day is Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
