Volunteers sought for Tamaqua park

Tamaqua could use some volunteers at each of its parks and playgrounds.

Jay Stidham, the borough’s director of public works, said he recently heard from Steve Ulicny, a volunteer for the East End Park, about some vandalism.

Ulicny told Stidham that the park is being hit by vandals and that he’s hoping to meet with council’s Parks and Recreation Committee to discuss the matter.

Ulicny and another longtime park volunteer are also looking to bow out from their volunteer positions, since their children are getting older, Stidham said.

“They wanted the borough to reach out to the community and see if they can get people to start getting involved with the East End playground and take over their positions,” Stidham said.

Council President Brian Connely hoped to see interest in the positions and said all playgrounds could use volunteer help.
