Carbon inmate charged with corrections worker assault

An inmate at the Carbon County Correctional Facility faces charges after an assault of a corrections worker at the prison in Nesquehoning earlier this month.

Eboni Sade Johnson, 31, was arraigned Wednesday on charges of criminal attempt – assault by a prisoner, four counts; assault by a prisoner, aggravated assault, simple assault, and harassment, five counts; and bail set at $20,000 unsecured.

According to the court papers, Johnson was out of her cell for recreation time and using the phone when she made comments that concerned staff.

Staff decided to put her on a level 1 suicide watch, which required her to change her uniform to a suicide prevention smock.

Johnson became verbally aggressive, got into a fighting stance, saying to officers, “If you want to box, we can box,” court papers said. Other officers were called to assist.

When the officer attempted to have her change her clothes, she attempted to strike them. One officer was struck with a punch in the lower lip, and Johnson also grabbed her hair, refusing to let go, court papers said.

Johnson continued to resist, but was forced to let go of the officer’s hair and was handcuffed. She still refused to change, but did eventually change her clothes, court papers said.

Johnson denied hitting anyone when interviewed by county detectives.
