PPL assesses damages at Mauch Chunk Lake boat launch

Mauch Chunk Lake Park boat launch A remains closed following a storm that caused damage due to downed trees and power lines Sunday.

On Wednesday, Commissioner Chris Lukasevich said that several trees came down around the park area, one on power lines next to the boat rental building at boat launch A. No damage was reported to the building.

He said that PPL Electric crews were on-site this morning to assess the damage. An update is also expected later today on when the county will be able to reopen the boat launch.

In the meantime, boaters wishing to utilize Mauch Chunk Lake by boat can launch from boat launch B, located on the Summit Hill side of the lake.

In addition, Lukasevich said that Penn State Extension’s office on Lentz Trail also experienced issues when trees fell during the storm.

He said that when trees fell and snapped a utility pole, it also included ripping a power meter from the building. An on-site generator was providing power.

The building has reopened to the public.
