Mahoning OKs Dollar General waivers

Mahoning Township supervisors last week approved several waiver requests for a proposed Dollar General.

The board approved the following for the store, which previously received permission to be built at 1677 Blakeslee Boulevard Drive, West, Route 443:

• Separate preliminary and final plan submissions are required. The planning commission recommended waiver request.

• Drainage easement needs to be provided to the township. The minimum width is 10 feet from each side of the drainage facility and existing nature drainage way; however, the township may require a greater easement when necessary, noting that a blanket easement over the entire property is being provided. Planning commission recommended a waiver request if the entire note is acceptable to the township.

• The depth of water within the basins. Position of the Carbon County Conservation District does not comment on it or if they need a NPDES Permit. The waiver request was tabled on a motion by Robert Slaw until the township has more information.

Additionally, the board granted Dollar General a 90-day extension request until Oct. 19.

In May, the Carbon County Planning Commission recommended conditional plan approval for the proposed store.

The plans call for building a 10,700-square-foot store with 32 parking spaces. JLM Investments LLC is the project engineer for the project, while the site is owned by Duschak One LLC.

In April, supervisors approved a request to submit a highway occupancy permit for the site.

Cole Boyer, project engineer for JLM Investments, said that the traffic impact would be about 300 vehicles daily and no traffic study was required.

About a dozen residents attended, roughly half of whom were opposed to the plan.

After reconvening from an executive session, the board granted the conditional use subject to obtaining variances for the number of parking spaces required, and the parking and loading setback. Or the company can comply with existing conditions.
