A Lehighton man faces multiple charges after an assault at an East Penn Township home early Monday, according to authorities.
Christopher K. Thomas, 33, of Sam Brooke Circle, was arraigned on charges of strangulation, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, endangering the welfare of children, simple assault and harassment.
He was jailed in the Carbon County prison in lieu of $50,000, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 5 before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek.
According to the court papers, a woman was sleeping in her son’s room when Thomas came into the room around 2:30 a.m., held her down and grabbed her neck/throat area, restricting her breathing.
She broke away from Thomas and ran into the kitchen/living room area of the home. Thomas grabbed a knife from the kitchen, held her down against her will and put the knife to her throat, saying, “I’ll kill you and kill myself,” according to court papers.
Thomas began swinging the knife wildly, stabbing areas in the residence near the woman, court papers said. She fled the home with her son.
Troopers observed redness to her throat, neck and arms, and she admitted herself to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment, court papers said.
