During a recent meeting, Tamaqua Borough Council:
• Hired Edward Zukovich as head lifeguard at $12.25 per hour retroactive to May 27, and hired Nicholas Wall as a lifeguard at $10 per hour.
• Hired Michael Styka as a part-time maintenance worker at $12.50 per hour effective June 12.
• Approved the transfer of Jeff Hartz to the water distribution work leader position.
• Approved a handicapped parking space application for 536 E. Union St.
• Approved an agreement to share municipal public works services including equipment and personnel with Rush Township. The township approved the agreement with Tamaqua last week.
“They have some equipment in Rush Township that we don’t and we have some that they don’t,” Councilman Ron Bowman said.
• Learned that new signs for the street sweeper will be installed soon.
• Heard that 240 of 483 streetlights have been replaced. Due to a manufacturing defect, the lights took on a purple hue and will be replaced at no cost to the borough.
